mafia in the Philippines

I was fascinated by the movie "The Godfather", the way they the mafia handle things. So i search for the mafia in the Philippines but what i have right now are the crimes being committed here in our country.

here are some of the amazing things i learned(i wont call them facts since these things are still subject for evaluation).

"One of the most important lessons was driven home to me by a friend from Colombia who has been following the events unfolding in Manila. "In Colombia, the mafia is stronger than the government", he told me. "But you know, we still are luckier than you Fi lipinos". When I asked why, he said, "Because the mafia is the government in your country".

More and more, Korean crime syndicates are using the Philippines as a hub to launder money from their operations, a senior Philippine police official has said.

Confirming this here today, the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma, said the modalities of implementing the order at the district-level were being worked out.

He said the youths from the district would be made aware about the dangers of getting involved in criminal activities with the Philippines mafia through the business of money lending. The parents of such youths, he added, would also be made cautious in this regard

The Philippines government has reportedly said the killing of youths form Punjab was a result of their association with the mafia in the Philippines.

espite the atrocities that are happening in Angeles there is very little said in the outside world. Their operations include prostitution, paedopillia, money laundering, gun running, kidnap, snuff movies, extortion, drugs and a range of other criminal activities. It is estimated by Human Rights workers that the gangs rake in as much as $100 million a month through their criminal activities. Anyone who dares speak out about what is happening in Angeles takes the risk of a contract being placed on their life. Most of the families who lived in Angeles have long since abandoned their homes. The few who remain live in fear.

The gangs are mostly made up of Australians, Americans and British. As of late the Russian mafia has also joined forces. The gangs use the name "Vorskii Mir", which translated means "The World of Criminals". They have developed strong ties also with the Japanese Yakusa, Chinese Triads, KLA and Sicilian Mafia. In the Philippines it is estimated 30% of all business pay protection money to the gangs.

China is not the yakuza's only source of young women. Many of the yakuza's prostitutes come from the Philippines, where girls from impoverished villages are tricked into going overseas with promises of respectable jobs at good wages. Once they arrive in Japan they are put to work as strippers and hookers by their yakuza masters. Frequently these girls succumb to the demands of their yakuza pimps because they can earn much more money than they ever could in the Philippines. The running joke among the Philippino streetwalkers in Japan's big cities is that whenever they send money home to their unknowing families, they write glowing letters, describing in detail their jobs as "receptionists."

Human-rights and lawyers' groups use 2001 as a reference point for these killings, because it was the year President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took power and, according to them, more killings have occurred during her administration than in any other since the era of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Nearly 900 activists, journalists, lawyers and judges have been killed since that year, according to Karapatan, a Malina-based human rights group, which says the attacks began to worsen in 2004. The Arroyo administration has denied the allegation that it was behind the killings or that it was condoning them.
